What the estimate covers

Labor for a bolt-on converter only; the converter, gaskets and hardware are extra. Converters built into the exhaust manifold, rusted or seized bolts, and welded-in converters take longer. A failed converter is often caused by a misfire or oil burning upstream: fix the cause first. Emissions parts may carry a longer federal emissions warranty on newer vehicles.
